Cosmetic Surgery Procedures – Pros and Cons

Cosmetic procedures both surgical and non-surgical continue to boom. According to the latest statistics by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, these kinds of procedures have grown by 162% over a very short period of time. In the year 2008, the United States alone recorded over 10.2 million cosmetic procedures. Top on the list of non-surgical ones was Botox while breast augmentation was a leader when it came to the surgical cosmetic procedures.

Over the years liposuction which is a surgical procedure to help people loose weight was overtaken by the above named cosmetic interventions. These cosmetic procedures are basically designed to improve the appearance of a person and provide the perceived or desired beauty.

There is nothing wrong in wanting to look better. Those who look better will report feeling better as well. However, in the face of many surgical and non-surgical interventions, it is important to consider some of the important aspects inclusive of merits and demerits.

Getting breast implants has brought great joy and satisfaction to many women. However, with the implants, there is a risk of leaking, bursting and even infection. Although rare, anything can go wrong and it can require another surgery to correct the problem. It does not come cheap as well.

Face lifts have the power to transform an aging skin into a fabulous idol. When it comes to the downsides, face lifts can take very long to heal. A lot can go wrong also and all manner of skin damage has been recorded.

Injectables like Botox will have you part with up to $400 or more for a single shot. Cosmetic surgical procedures are even more expensive ranging from $3,000 to $6,000 depending on the type of cosmetic surgery. Plastic surgeons will qualify the right candidates for the procedure and not all people can qualify. Smokers are certainly not good candidates.

Young children and people with pre-existing health problems might also not qualify. Cosmetic surgery is largely viewed (or is) as a practice of the western/developed world. However, more and more people from all corners of the world (who can afford it) are buying into the culture of cosmetic surgery to improve their features.

Dental cosmetic surgery is also very popular in societies. Many people will not pass the opportunity to get the ideal smile if they have the funds for it. There are many ways to find affordable cosmetic surgery. It starts with researching all centers within reach and getting vital information that will allow comparison. Many people will travel abroad for cheap or affordable cosmetic surgery. Asia and South America are common destinations for such procedures.
